Lance J. Kriegsfeld, PhD is a Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of California Berkeley. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed paper and commentaries, and 3 books. Professor Kriegsfeld’s work has been consistently funded by The National Institutes of Health, The National Science Foundation, industry, foundations, and philanthropy. His principal line of research focuses on the role of circadian timing in physical and mental health, applying behavioral, histological, cell/tissue culture, pharmacological, molecular biological, and computational approaches to examine questions of interest from neural circuits and specific genes to neurochemical systems and behavior. His group has used these approaches to investigate the role of circadian rhythms in cognition, mental health, neurobehavioral development, gastric motility, female reproductive health, optimal insulin delivery strategies in Type I diabetes, and develop devices for measuring activity, sleep, and ambient light. Professor Kriegsfeld is committed to intra-and extramural service, having served as Vice Chair in the Department of Psychology at Berkeley and routinely serving on National Institutes of Health study sections and journal editorial boards. Professor Kriegsfeld has won several awards for research and service, including the Frank A. Beach Award in Behavioral Neuroendocrinology, the Berkeley Faculty Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring, and the Department of Psychology Outstanding Service Award.
