Do you have
BIPOLAR DISORDER?
Changes in sleep and daily activity rhythms can impact the moods of people living with bipolar disorder. The aim of this study is to investigate whether we can improve prediction of mood changes in bipolar disorder by measuring sleep and daily activity. Your participation in the research could help us understand the role of sleep and daily rhythms in mood changes, which could improve the management of bipolar disorder.
This project aims to find the risk algorithm that could be built into a simple device. The device is called an actigraph, and is worn on the wrist like a watch. The device measures activity and is just a scientific version of a Fitbit.

If we can find the risk algorithm, we could build it into the actigraph. The device would then help people manage their bipolar disorder by providing an early warning of mood changes
The study is being conducted through Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, but we will be recruiting people from across Australia and New Zealand.
- You may be eligible if you:
- Are aged 18 to 65 years;
- Reside in Australia and New Zealand;
- Can understand verbal and written English;
- Have been given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder;
- Provide us with the details of your treating medical practitioner;
- Are not currently experiencing a mood episode.
This research will be conducted online, and you will be reimbursed for you participation.
